Erb’s Palsy Lawyers
Erb’s Palsy is a form of brachial plexus injury and is caused and treated like a brachial plexus injury. As in brachial plexus injuries, the injury is known at birth or within a day or two of the child’s life. Similar risk factors like a difficult delivery, large baby, vacuum or forceps delivery can result in Erb’s Palsy. The baby may recover fully or experience lifelong functional limitations of the arm.
One must differentiate a brachial plexus or Erb’s Palsy injury that occurred during birth or a childhood injury. A birth injury results in a slow pulling that stretches the nerves and is apparent shortly after birth before the baby leaves the hospital. Childhood injuries that result in nerve dysfunction are high energy shearing forces and result in more permanent and severe injury.
