Hip Replacements
Hip replacements are performed when a person’s hip joint has been severely damaged because of osteoporosis, arthritis, injury, or a tumor.
The surgery lasts about an hour or two. Following the surgery, there is usually six months or more of rehabilitation and physical therapy.
Approximately 120,000 Americans have a hip replacement each year. More than 10% of those who have had their hip replaced will need to undergo revision surgery because of defective prostheses or natural wear and tear.
